Windows 10 Tip: Get Links to Windows Store Apps

Posted April 3, 2017 | Windows | Windows 10

After I noted on a recent podcast that the Windows Store app doesn’t provide an obvious way to discover the hyperlink for that item, a reader pointed out a workaround.

So thanks to Ron Harding for this tip.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t work for all Windows Store items. For example, there is still no way to get a hyperlink for an e-book or for a collection of any kind. So if you want to share the list of the top free games in the Store, or perhaps the Free Classics collection of free e-books, well, you’re out of luck.

But if all you want is to provide a hyperlink for an individual app or game, you can do so.

Here’s how: Display the app or game in Windows Store. Then, scroll down until you see the Share link, which is below the Description and Available On sections.

Click Share to display the Share pane.

Then, click Mail. A new mail window will appear with the hyperlink to the selected item in the body. Voila! You can just copy this to the clipboard now and use it elsewhere.

Hopefully, they bring this capability—or a simpler “get link”—to all Windows Store content and collections in the future.
