In yet another nod to the fans, Microsoft last night announced that it will bring original generation Xbox game titles to Xbox One Backward Compatibility.

How you feel about this will depend on your level of experience with that original console—which arrived way back in 2001—and your nostalgia for some of the key games. I personally believe that most original Xbox games are better left to memory, but whatever: If there are gamers who still wish to play these games today in 2017, this is nothing but good news.

“I’ve heard your feedback,” Microsoft’s Phil Spencer said during his E3 press conference appearance. “And you want more. Today, I’m pleased to announce an exciting expansion to the [Backward Compatible] program: Our team of engineers is working hard to bring you some of your favorite original Xbox games to today’s Xbox One library.”

As Mr. Spencer noted, Xbox One Backward Compatibility today has over 385 titles in its collection. And the addition of original Xbox games will only make this collection bigger, and better, while giving gamers who stick with this platform a wonderful gift.

He even provided some specifics: Fan-favorite Crimson Skies, an action-oriented arcade flight game will among the original Xbox titles coming to Xbox One.

“It looks great,” Spenser said of Crimson Skies. “And like the Xbox 360 games, OG (original generation Xbox) games will look better, and play better, across the Xbox One family.” (Backward Compatible games work on all Xbox One consoles, including the original Xbox One, the Xbox One S, and the coming Xbox One X.)

Microsoft says that original Xbox game support for Backward Compatibility will launch “later this year.” And it will provide more information about the games it will deliver at that time.
