Microsoft Updates All Shipping Versions of Windows 10

Posted April 12, 2017 | Windows | Windows 10

As part of its regularly-scheduled Patch Tuesday event this week, Microsoft updated each of the shipping versions of Windows 10. As is always the case, there were no new features, just improvements.

“Windows 10 is a service, which means it gets better through periodic software updates,” Microsoft says, incorrectly. (It treats Windows 10 as a service, but Windows 10 is a gigantic legacy codebase, not a service.) “The great news is you usually don’t have to do anything: updates automatically download and install whenever they’re available.” (Whether you see that as “great news” is open to debate as well. OK, I’ll stop.)

In any event, the latest Windows 10 version, version 1703, or the Creators Update, received the smallest of this week’s cumulative updates, which makes sense since it’s brand new. For this release, KB4015583 bumped the build number up a lot to 15063.138 and added the following changes:

  • Addressed issues with updated time zone information.
  • Security updates to Scripting Engine, libjpeg image-processing library, Hyper-V, Windows kernel-mode drivers, Adobe Type Manager Font Driver, Internet Explorer, Graphics Component, Active Directory Federation Services, .NET Framework, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, Microsoft Edge and Windows OLE.

Less recent Windows 10 versions received different fixes, of course. For example, Windows 10 version 1607 was updated with KB4015217, which added a ton of fixes. Just head over to Windows Update and get updated.
